Turning the TI-84 Plus CE On and Off
The TI-84 Plus CE features easy power management to help conserve battery life. This section explains how to turn your calculator on and off, as well as its automatic power-down features.
Turning On Your Calculator
To turn on your TI-84 Plus CE:
- Press the [ON] key, located in the bottom-left corner of the keyboard.
- If the calculator doesn't turn on, the battery may need to be charged.
- The calculator will display the home screen or will resume from the same state when it was last turned off.
Tip: If you see the "RAM Cleared" message when turning on your calculator, it means the memory has been reset.
Turning Off Your Calculator
There are two ways to turn off your TI-84 Plus CE:
- Manual method: Press [2nd] followed by [ON] (OFF).
- Automatic method: The calculator's Automatic Power Down™ (APD™) feature turns off the calculator automatically after about 3-5 minutes of inactivity.
Note: When you turn off the calculator, its state is saved, including the display settings, cursor location, and any errors.
Battery Information
The TI-84 Plus CE comes with a rechargeable battery that should be charged before first use.
Charging the Battery
- Connect the smaller end of the USB cable to the calculator.
- Connect the other end to a computer or a wall adapter.
- Charge until the battery indicator shows full (approximately 4 hours).
Checking Battery Status
To check the battery status:
- Press [2nd] [MODE] to access the calculator settings.
- The battery indicator is displayed in the top-right corner of the screen.

Battery Conservation
To maximize battery life:
- Turn off the calculator when not in use
- Reduce the screen brightness
- Use the automatic power-down feature
- Avoid using apps that draw significant power for extended periods
- Remove USB cables when not charging
Troubleshooting Power Issues
If your calculator won't turn on:
- Charge the battery for at least 30 minutes
- Press [ON] again
- Reset the calculator by gently pressing the RESET button on the back using a paper clip
- If still not working, contact customer support
