Setting Modes
The MODE settings on your TI-84 Plus CE determine how the calculator displays and interprets numbers, graphs, and other elements. This section explains the various mode settings available.
Numeric Mode
Normal, Sci, Eng
These modes control how numbers are displayed on the calculator.
- Normal: Shows numbers in standard decimal notation
- Sci: Shows numbers in scientific notation (e.g., 1.23×10^4)
- Eng: Shows numbers in engineering notation with powers of 10 in multiples of 3
Float, 0123456789
These modes determine the number of decimal places displayed.
- Float: Shows up to 10 digits with a floating decimal point
- 0-9: Shows numbers with a fixed number of decimal places (0-9)
Real, a+bi, re^θi
These modes determine how the calculator handles complex numbers.
- Real: Only real numbers are displayed and complex results return an error
- a+bi: Displays complex numbers in rectangular form (a+bi)
- re^θi: Displays complex numbers in polar form (re^θi)
